Stunning beaches in our area

One of the best beaches in Scotland can be found right on our doorstep and only 3.8 miles from Celtic Holiday Lodges. The beach is good for surfing, walking or dipping your feet in the waves.

Dunnet Bay is located between Castletown and Dunnet, close to the north-eastern tip of Scotland. The pale sandy beach is very wide and stretches for over 2 miles which backs onto dunes and lush grassy plains, known locally in Scotland as “machair”.

At the north end of Dunnet Bay you will find the village of Dunnet, which has an old church, a small hotel and the Seadrift Dunnet Visitor Centre. As well as being a Visitor Centre, Seadrift is also the base for the Highland Council Rangers who run a full programme of events throughout the season including Walks and Wildlife & Bird Watching. You can find them at the north end of Dunnet sands about 1 mile from the small village of Dunnet.

Dunnet Head, is the most northerly point of the United Kingdom mainland and is just beyond the beach, above the mouth of Dunnet Burn. This remote headland has an old lighthouse, built in 1832, and provides the opportunity for walkers and birdwatchers. The cliffs  at Dunnet Head provide nesting for a variety of seabirds.

On a clear day, there are amazing views from Dunnet Head along the coastline and out towards the Orkney Islands. Seals and dolphins can be spotted bobbing up and down in the surf.
