All Holiday Lodges here at Celtic Lodges have high speed Free Wi-Fi for guests. This service is delivered by Starlink through Elon Musk’s SpaceX.
Starlink provides global internet coverage through a constellation of low earth orbit satellites which are launched into space by SpaceX.
From Launch Pad to Fast Free Wi-Fi
SpaceX launched their first batch of 60 Starlink satellites back in 2019, each weighing around 230kg and the plan is to ultimately orbit around 40,000.
As of January 1st 2026 there were over 9,000 satellites in the Starlink network orbiting around 340 miles above the earth.
They have over 9 million customers in over 155 countries. 21+ million airline passengers and 20+ million cruise line passengers have used Starlink to date, many probably without knowing who was providing their internet.
Starlink has raced to keep up with a surging demand for reliable, high-speed internet across the globe, especially in areas where few, if any, options for broadband connectivity have existed before now.
In 2025 alone, Starlink connected more than 4.6 million new active customers with high-speed internet and expanded service to 35 additional countries, territories and other markets around the world.
SpaceX completed deployment of the first generation of the Starlink Direct to Cell constellation, with more than 650 satellites launched to low-Earth orbit in just 18 months. So far Starlink Direct to Cell has connected more than 12 million people, and counting, at least once, providing life-saving connectivity when people need it most.

Free Wi-Fi for Guests
Celtic Lodges is located right on the NC500 in countryside between Thurso and John O’Groats and as such we have very few options when it comes to supplying guests with Free Wi-Fi. Although quite expensive Starlink gives us the one thing that we all come to expect these days; high speed internet.
Guests can find the password to each lodge’s Free Wi-Fi on the small notice board located by the front door.
